*note 2: Ernst Kunze was on 30 day furlough in August 1863-after the Battle of Vicksburg attached to the
Minnesota 5th Infantry Regiment Volunteers- Company 'D'. He was found at the train station in Odin, Ill. suffering
from probably cholera by a Mr. Reichert and died in his home 3 days later. Mr. John Reichert wrote letters to
Ernst's wife and to his Commander explaining what happened to him. Mr. Reichert also took care of his burial. Ernst
Kunze's burial site is yet to be found.
